Guia de Isora is a small town 600 metres or 2000 feet above sea level. There are shops, bars, a bus station and an Olympic size swimming pool.
There are plenty of circular walks from the town. All the routes include steep gradients but the rocky lava paths, gravel tracks and tarmac lanes are good for walking.
Downhill there are farms and banana plantations. Uphill the pine woods start. Using local buses, many more walking routes are opened up.
The day time maximum temperatures in January are typically 19 Celsius and a bit warmer on the coast.
Sometimes clouds form at around 4000 feet and the pine woods become cool and foggy. Prolonged wet weather is rare.
